What is pixel pitch?
Pixel pitch is the distance in millimetres between the centres of two neighbouring LEDs. A smaller pitch means more pixels in the same area, a sharper image when viewed up close, and a higher price.
Match pitch to viewing distance
A common rule of thumb is that the minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly the pixel pitch in millimetres. So a 2.5 mm screen looks smooth from about 2.5 metres away, and a 6 mm screen from about 6 metres.
Typical choices
Receptions and boardrooms, viewed from 1.5 to 3 metres, usually need 1.2 to 2.5 mm. Retail windows and showrooms often use 2.5 to 4 mm. Atriums and stages viewed from further away work well with 3 to 5 mm. Roadside outdoor screens viewed from 10 metres or more commonly use 6 to 10 mm.
Outdoor needs more than pitch
Outdoor screens in the UAE also need high brightness to stay readable in direct sun, an IP65 or better rating against dust and water, and good ventilation or cooling. See our outdoor LED screens and LED video walls pages for options.
Frequently asked questions
Is a smaller pixel pitch always better?
Not always. If viewers stand far away they won't see the difference, so you would be paying for resolution nobody notices.
