Flex vs Mesh Banners: Choosing Billboard & Hoarding Material

Flex gives the strongest colour; mesh lets wind through. When to use each for billboards, wraps and site hoardings.

Flex banners

Flex is a solid PVC-coated material. It gives the richest colour and the smoothest finish, which is why it is used for most billboard faces and framed hoardings. Heavier grades are more durable and hold tension better on large frames.

Mesh banners

Mesh is a perforated material that lets wind pass through. It is the safe choice for building wraps, scaffold banners and hoardings on exposed sites, where a solid banner would act like a sail. Colours look slightly lighter close up, but from a distance mesh prints well.

Lifespan in UAE sun

With UV-stable inks and good tensioning, outdoor flex and mesh usually keep their colour for 12 to 24 months in UAE conditions. Lamination, regular cleaning and proper fixing extend this.

Which to choose

Use flex for framed billboards and sheltered hoardings where colour matters most. Use mesh for tall buildings, scaffolding and windy, open sites. Our large format printing and construction hoardings teams can advise for your location.

Frequently asked questions

Can mesh banners be backlit?

Mesh is not ideal for backlighting. For illuminated billboards we use backlit flex.
